Yo-Kai Watch 3 Has a Storyline Set in the US – Will Also Come With NFC, Amiibo-like Functions
US fans of the hit anime Yo-Kai Watch started to feel the yokai fever with the release of its first 3DS game last November. Coupled with an actual Yo-Kai Watch offered by Hasbro together with its host of yokai medals, interest in the Japanese anime series have taken on a new level.
We might as well prepare for another wave of yokai mania now that a third instalment from the main series of the game has been officially revealed by game developer Level 5. There has been no announcement yet for a US release of Yokai Watch 2: Ganso, Honke and Shinuchi, nor its spin-off games such as the Yo-Kai Watch Sangkushi (Three Kingdoms). In spite of this, Level 5 and Nintendo has partnered once again for another yokai-filled adventure, and this time it has a distinct storyline that is closer to home and a play feature that will surely amp the excitement for the game.
Yo-Kai Watch 3: Sushi and Tempura sees the main character Keita moving to the United States with his family only to discover that yokais also exist in this part of the world. The game features tons of new yokais garbed in western clothing, and sports a new, sleeker Yo-Kai Watch.
Offered in two versions, Sushi and Tempura, each of these titles comes with an exclusive, physical yokai medallion. Sushi comes with the KK Brothers medal, while Tempura has the Tomnyan medal. Here’s the kicker: as Nintendo Inquirer reported, these medals are supported by the new 3DS hinting at the possibility of NFC, amiibo like compatibility. They will also work with the smartphone app Yo-Kai Dream Roulette and the physical DX Yo-Kai Watch Dream toy. Just imagine being able to tap your yokai medal on the Nintendo 3DS and something great happens in the game. With so many yokai medals around, this will surely bring the Yo-Kai Watch at a whole new level.
Here’s Yo-Kai Watch 3’s brand new trailer.
Yo-Kai Watch 3: Sushi and Tempura will be released in Japan on July 16.
